Coming of age in the late 70's / early 80's, many if not most Harley riders I came in contact with (I had the motorcycle bug early in life), were truly outlaws. They might not have been "Hells Angeles" but they lived a lifestyle that was on the wild side. I remember Harley Riders as being in the minority back then. Honda ruled the motorcycling world. The Harley guys didn't like us back then either, but I respected that because they were who they appeared to be. They were against the norm. The thing that bothers me most about the Harley crowd now is that so many of them (Hogryder excluded) are faking it. They are the norm now. They spend soo much money at trying to look badass and yet when the weekend is over they climb into their sport utility vehicles on Monday morning to get to the office with their six figure salaries. They would never dream of livin the old Harley Riders life. Those guys rode everywhere on their Hogs, worked on them in the garage and drank cheap whiskey and beer, played pool in bars on the rough side of town etc. These new breed of Harley riders never seem to have any grease under their fingernails. Now, all of this would not bother me if it weren't for the fact that these people actually snub their noses at those of us who ride a different brand of bike! They don't even know me. Many of them just got into the sport in the last couple of years. When I'm splitting lanes on the freeway on my 60+ mile one-way commute to work Monday thru Friday, I always wonder how many weekend Harley riders I'm passing by in their big cushy, everything but the kitchen sink sport utility vehicles. On the weekend, if it's sunny and warm enough, they'll be out for a run and pull up next to me at a stop light and snub their yuppie noses at me like I'm some kinda wanna be. A wanna-be what? A Yuppie?!
